About Maggie
“Wine is unlike any other beverage to me. To learn about it means studying history, geography, science, and legend. To taste it involves all the senses. To enjoy it with others is the finest camaraderie.”This sums up Maggie’s views on wine. A few years ago she transitioned from a career in the airline industry to make the study of wine a full-time job. She holds the Certified Specialist of Wine credential from the Society of Wine Educators, has completed a year of study with the International Sommelier Guild, and is a certified instructor for the French Wine Academy’s Wine Enthusiast program. She is also a Wine Consultant for Sherlock’s Wine Merchant in Brookhaven. Most recently she has completed the French Wine Scholar program with The French Wine Society and can now add more of the alphabet to her title.
“An important part of what I do is help people feel comfortable with wine. There’s been an unfortunate trend toward elitism surrounding what is meant to be a universal pleasure, a means to bring people together. And one of the best things about wine tasting is that it’s so subjective. There are no wrong answers to what you’re sensing from the glass. What could be more diplomatic than that?”
